As generous as our coastal town is, it’s hard to top Ralph and Shelly Stayer’s philanthropic involvement, whether it’s bestowing—as Ralph phrases it—time, talent, or treasure. While the couple—who are from Wisconsin and built and co-own Johnsonville Foods—have worked collectively on philanthropic projects, it was Shelly who first dove into the deep end of Naples altruism upon their move to Southwest Florida in 2010.

Photographer Gray Malin has a penchant for capturing the unique and unexpected—from adorable pooches posing throughout iconic cities (think: London, Paris, Palm Beach, and Aspen) to elephants and llamas whimsically surrounded by colorful balloons. Malin also has an inclination for flying high above his subjects, often hanging out of doorless helicopters to snap incredible vistas—whether these be of cityscapes, famous golf courses, or coastal towns with beautiful beaches, such as Naples.

Kristen Coury—founder, CEO, and producing artistic director for Gulfshore Playhouse—moved to Naples in June 2004, after falling in love with the coastal town on a vacation jaunt a few months before. Though she had established a successful theater career in New York, her desire to leave—especially following the attacks of 9/11—was great. Upon returning from her Florida vacation, she decided to trade Big Apple views for Naples Bay vistas, purchasing a condominium in the colorful complex of Bayfront.

Cocoon Gallery had been rooted in Greenwich, Connecticut, for approximately 20 years before its founder, Mitchell Siegel, thought about visiting Naples. It was a business partner who urged Siegel to tour Fifth Avenue South initially, suggesting it could be a fecund location for his high-end furniture, art, and decor business. After visiting, it didn’t take long for Siegel to relocate. In 2020, he set up shop here, closing the Greenwich location in 2021.
