There were an estimated 4 million tip workers (those who received more than $30 per month in tips) in 2023, about 2.5% of all employment. Moreover, only 5% of workers in the lowest income quartile are in this group, and 37% of them do not earn enough to pay federal income tax and therefore would not benefit from this tax cut.

Americans under 30 are significantly less likely to vote than their over-30 counterparts. The Brookings Institute found that in the 2022 election:31.2% of those 18-29 voted. 46.8% of those 30-44 voted. 58.3% of those 45-64 voted. 66.8% of those 65+ voted. More people vote in presidential elections than midterm elections. The 2020 election saw the highest turnout in recent history at 66.8%. Still, young voters were still the least represented.

A 2024 study found Dartmouth’s test-optional policy reduced admissions of disadvantaged students because it removed a common metric that could be considered in the context of the students’ backgrounds. Dartmouth changes the threshold of a “good” score depending on the socioeconomic status of the applicant. A disproportionate number of disadvantaged students with SAT scores below the school’s average did not submit scores that would have increased their chance of admission.
