The plan was always that I’d retire when my husband retired. That day is here, and it’s the most challenging career move of my life. I have absolutely no skills or experience in being retired. I did not study it in college and have won no awards for it. Not a single one of my references said I’d be any good at it. But my new boss (me) has been very supportive, so I’ve gotten right down to business.

A couple of weeks ago, Press Forward announced 11 new local chapters among the latest developments in the growing coalition’s movement to invest at least $500 million into local news over five years, and recruit more funders to that cause. Leaders of that coalition, which now comprises more than 40 funders, also shared a Guide for Local Funders with case studies and recommendations for others looking to start local chapters.

On Monday, March 4, New York Times publisher A. G. Sulzberger gave the annual Reuters Memorial Lecture at Oxford University. (We wrote previously about an interview he gave beforehand.) He took the opportunity to respond to some of the Times’ critics, particularly on the paper’s coverage of the war in Gaza and trans issues.
