What is already known? Diabetes is a major contributor to the development of end stage renal disease (ESRD). Diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES), which could delay or avoid the onset of ESRD, is not used by all people with diabetes. What is added by this report? We compared the geographic availability, at the county level, of DSMES and dialysis, the principal treatment for ESRD.
