It was Christmas Eve several years ago and money was tight for my wife and me. I was living outside of Franklin in the rural area of Cowee Mountain. On the night of Christmas Eve I went into town (Walmart) on a quest to find a pair of jeans because I didn’t have any. I was unfortunately unable to find any in my size or within budget. I embarked on the 25 minute ride home winding down Highway 28 on a dark cold night. About 10 minutes into the drive, I see something up ahead in the road as I pass by.

Data curation and quality control Field names (i.e. data table columns) from existing databases were synonymized for inclusion in BioDeepTime (see Appendix , Tables .1–S1.17 and ‘Synonymy of sources’ in Smith et al. (2023b)). To include as many time series as possible, we allowed the methods and types of data used to infer sample ages to vary among data sets, as long as the methods were consistent within each time series.
