The sport of pickleball continues to boom in popularity all across the world. Florida, and specifically the Gulf Coast, is one of the epicenters of the sport. Now, Cape Coral is turning into the peak of collegiate pickleball. The Association of Pickleball Players (APP) is hosting the U.S. Collegiate Championships at The Courts, Cape Coral, this weekend. "We are putting on a March Madness of our own," APP Executive Vice President of Strategy and Growth Shannon Dan said.

After years of coaching stability, FGCU Athletics is going through a period of transition. Since the new athletic director, Colin Hargis, was hired in May, six head coaches left or announced their intentions of leaving their positions. Hargis filled all of the openings by January. “Hopefully this wave is behind us, and now we get to move on, build, and finish out this year strong," Hargis told Gulf Coast News in January. However, that wave is surging again.
