Following the conclusion of its regular season, the United Football League (UFL) announced its All-League team, featuring a notable HBCU alum. Former Tennessee State wide receiver and Deacon Jones trophy recipient Chris Rowland was named to the All-UFL team as both a receiver and return specialist. Playing in all 10 games for the DC Defenders, Rowland finished second in the UFL in receiving yards (522) and third in total receptions (42), accounting for three touchdowns.

Talladega College has announced that Andre Payne, its former women’s basketball coach, will become its athletic director. This news comes less than two months after it was announced that Payne was being hired as the next men’s basketball coach at Allen University. In addition to taking over as AD, the school also announced that he will reclaim his role as Talladega’s women’s basketball coach. “I am thankful and excited about returning to Talladega College,” said Payne.

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships have concluded, and one HBCU squad took first place. Lincoln (MO) was the day’s biggest winner, closing out the day with a pair of top finishes in the respective 4×400 relays. After posting the fastest time in the preliminary round, Lincoln’s women’s 4×400 relay team took home the gold in the finals after posting a personal-best time of 3:32.62.

Following an impressive first day at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, nine HBCU athletes qualified for event finals. Lincoln (MO) sprinter Shantae George claimed the final qualifying spot for the women’s 200m by .002 seconds. George’s teammate, Shaneal-Clarke Giddings, advanced to the women’s 800m finals, automatically qualifying after finishing second in her preliminary heat.
