The Film and Publications Board (FPB) is aiming to clamp down harder on social media sites that disseminate harmful content. The FPB was before the Select Committee on Economic Development to update parliamentarians on the work done to protect South Africans from online harm. In line with the Films and Publications Amendment Act of 2019, the FPB is tasked with formulating policy that regulates digital media at its distribution, among other functions.

A KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) man is in custody following his involvement in a kidnapping plot. The efforts of multiple law enforcement units tracked down the 31-year-old last week only to find things were not as they seemed. The man’s bail application is scheduled for 16 April following his first appearance in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Sisey Tarakegn was arrested on Wednesday despite authorities being told he was the victim of a kidnapping.
