    A small beachside community has been rocked by the drowning deaths of two tourists in what Surf Life Saving Queensland describes as "an absolute tragedy". A 46-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy from the United Kingdom were swimming at Round Hill Head at Seventeen Seventy on Sunday afternoon when they were swept into the ocean. A rescue helicopter pulled them from the water and they were declared dead at the scene.

    North Queensland is facing another onslaught of wet weather in areas where it has already been raining for more than a week. The Bureau of Meterology said flood-ravaged communities could see intense daily falls of up to 250mm and renewed river level rises. Senior forecaster Gabriel Branescu said there was still a severe weather warning in place from Tully to Ayr, including Townsville, Ingham and Cardwell.

    Australia's consumer watchdog alleges fuel sold at several service stations in Queensland did not contain the additives Mobil advertised and claimed would provide engine protection. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) filed legal proceedings in the Federal Court on Tuesday against Mobil Oil Australia for making false or misleading claims about the fuel sold.

    At the back of this 162-year-old timber pub, a fierce competition is being waged by bull riders. Several hundred punters are cheering on as brave cowboys fly out of a chute into an arena on the back of bucking bulls. "It's a big adrenaline rush," 18-year-old Thomas Triplett said. The Yeppoon local won the opens competition at the Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton at the weekend, in a five-round championship between the pub and its adversary The Club Hotel Roma.
