Three streets have been evacuated in Newcastle after a suspected unexploded device was found. Swinhoe Road, Prendwick Avenue and Holburn Walk in the Great Park area of the city have been evacuated with Newcastle City Council supporting those impacted. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 12.20pm today (Friday), we received a report of a suspected unexploded device at an address on Swinhoe Road in the Great Park area of Newcastle.

A Gateshead curry challenge has raised £800 for a local charity. Raval, an award-winning Indian restaurant overlooking the River Tyne, hosted a night encouraging people to try the UK’s hottest curry. Named ‘The Inferno’ by the restaurant, the meal hits over one million scoville units and brought in challengers from across the North East, wider UK and even the USA. Local legend Curry Hell Carl was the only contestant to finish the dish, securing his place in Raval’s spicy hall of fame once again.

Thousands of ‘missing’ blood donors across the North East are being urgently called on as the NHS warns that supplies of O negative are critically low. NHS Blood and Transplant has revealed there are 2,420 donors in the region with the vital O negative blood type whose last donation was more than 12 months ago.
