And that was with a 15-foot cushion. “It definitely wasn’t my best meet, but it got the job done,” said Sims, who won the event with a throw of 146 feet, 6 inches to advance to state.

This weekend will be about surviving and advancing to the new look state baseball tournament starting next Thursday. Coeur d’Alene (16-4), as the fourth seed, will face the winner of Friday’s game between No. 9 seed Highland (18-9) and No. 7 and qualifier host Lake City (13-8) on Friday afternoon.

The Post Falls boys 4x400 relay team of seniors Cobe Cameron, Trenton McLean, Tallan McCracken and Gio Carlino are hoping that it pays off with some gold at the end of this season. Cameron won the state 5A 400 last year, diving across the finish line for his first title. “I trained all last summer and went to Texas for the Junior Olympics trying to get better for this year,” Cameron said.

She might be close to adding another role — playing on the women’s basketball team — to her Cardinal schedule. “I didn’t think I was going to play at the next level, and just looked to get some more game time in,” said Nelson, who said she’s considering walking on to the program for the 2025-26 season. “I’m thinking about playing here.
