    COEUR d’ALENE — A judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit that named Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris due to a procedural issue, though the woman who accused Norris of defaming her at a campaign event last year is likely to refile the suit. The civil complaint, filed in October 2024 by Coeur d’Alene resident Pennie Collinson, alleged that Norris made vulgar sexual remarks about Collinson during a candidate forum in Cataldo last April.

    WALLACE — Shoshone County commissioners are considering changes to guidelines for future commissioner meetings.  BOCC Chairman Jeff Zimmerman recently presented a list of five rules that had been discussed that could be printed on the back of the board’s meeting agendas. Both the board and the public would be required to adhere to them during all future meetings. Commissioner Melissa Cowles also proposed an additional rule during the discussion that was added to the list.

    COEUR d’ALENE — Kootenai County commissioners took a first look Monday at the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026. Total expenditures, including all requests and proposals from county government, come to about $145 million. Commissioners will iron out the budget, including any cuts, during six deliberation meetings between now and July 23. A preliminary balanced budget will be presented July 31 and a public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27. Commissioners are expected to adopt a final budget Aug. 29.
