    June 1 marks the final day of the NFL calendar where any future bonus money accelerates into the 2025 league year if a player is cut or traded. Starting tomorrow, the rules now allow the team to defer all of that acceleration to 2026 if they move on from a player. June 2nd also marks the day when the NFL will officially process the post June 1 designations made earlier this year.

    The Philadelphia Eagles cleared out of of their bigger mistakes of recent times by trading EDGE Bryce Huff to the 49ers for a mid round pick according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. As part of the trade the Eagles will pay out $9.05 million of Huff’s 2025 compensation as a bonus, as detailed by ESPN’s Field Yates. The Eagles had signed Huff as a free agent in 2024 to a three year, $51.1 million contract with $34 million guaranteed that seemed to go south the minute the season started.

    Signing a 6th round pick that you just drafted is not really noteworthy but the Eagles have done something a little different with Cameron Williams that hasn’t really been seen before. In this case the Eagles guaranteed Williams $475,000 of his salary, bringing his total guarantee to $676,568 rather than the $201,568 that would normally come from the slot. The guarantee is split as $375,000 in 2025 and $125,000 in 2026. There is also a small salary increase in the first two years of the contract.

    It is always interesting to look at stability year to year in NFL rosters. It can give you a good indication of what front offices and coaching staff’s really thought of last year’s roster and in some cases what salary cap/budgetary constraints can do to a roster. There are two good times to look at these numbers. The first is now as we get into OTA’s and can get a feel for how many different faces will be trying out for the football team in training camp.

Basic decision for unhappy players and mandatory camps: Vet with guaranteed salary- will attend Vet with non-guaranteed salary- wont attend Rookies- depends on leverage; 1st rounders have a little more leeway. A lot of "ankle tweak" type stuff for those who attend
