    Glen Carbon police responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle about 10:45 a.m. June 17 in the 100 block of North Main Street at Hidden Hills Drive. Glen Carbon EMS were also on scene, and rendered aid to the 27-year-old male victim, who was then transported to Saint Louis University Hospital by AirEvac helicopter in critical but stable condition.

    Aldermen will vote on changes to the rules for soliciting in the city. The measure received its first reading during the June 3 meeting and would require anyone wishing to solicit to have a permit and operate only between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Solicitors would also be required to respect any posted "no soliciting" signs. The measure would exempt youth organizations, churches, and political canvassing, according to City Attorney Jeff Berkbigler.

    Glen Carbon's annual Homecoming event is designed to be a celebration of the community. This year, it was also a celebration of the village's connection with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. For its parade this year, Glen Carbon chose Andrew Gavin, the SIUE director of athletics, to serve as the grand marshal. "Being the grand marshal certainly has nothing to do with me individually," Gavin said. "But it's a good honor for the athletics department.
