Maxton Martin’s three-run homer in the ninth capped a four-run ninth-inning rally as the Hickory Crawdads earned a dramatic 9-7 win over Columbia Sunday afternoon at LP Frans Stadium. The win for Hickory earned a split against Columbia, keeping Hickory 1.5 games back of Kannapolis, who won in walk-off fashion Sunday against Myrtle Beach. Gabriel Silva had a big day for the Fireflies, hitting two home runs and driving in three on the day.

Winners at Hickory Motor Speedway Saturday night included Michael Bumgarner in the late models, Aiden King in the limiteds, Jordan Cook in the renegades, Cody DeMarmels swept both street stock races and the Carolina Pro Late Model Series was won by Sheflon Clay.

App State Athletics has named Samantha LaFon, a former Mountaineer women’s basketball student-athlete and recent graduate, as its new Student-Athlete Development Coordinator. In this crucial role, LaFon will focus on programming that will support App State student-athletes athletically, academically and with their post-college career endeavors. “I’m incredibly honored to return to App State as the new Student-Athlete Development Coordinator,” LaFon said.

App State Volleyball head coach Chad Sutton announced the schedule for the 2025 season, his first in charge of the Mountaineers. This fall’s slate will feature a nonconference tournament, a pair of nonconference midweek matches and eight home conference matchups. The Mountaineers’ nonconference slate will feature clashes with a trio of ACC opponents and a clash with Big 10 contender Michigan State. Season tickets are available to purchase and renew for $65.
