Allison, a graduate student from Newton-Conover High School, had a stellar senior season, finishing with seven top-10’s in 11 events.

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers slugged three homers en route to a 14-3 win over the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday night at LP Frans Stadium. One night after Hickory (16-18) one-hit Kannapolis on their way to a 7-0 win to open the series, Kannapolis would issue an emphatic rebuttal as Nathan Archer put together a four-hit game and Ryan Burrowes would reach base five times on the way to the win. The Cannon Ballers scored in six frames, collecting fifteen hits in the game.
CVCC Softball Has Pair Named to All-Region 10 Team

Two members of the Catawba Valley Community College softball team have been honored by Region 10 for their play following the 2025 regular season. Red Hawk outfielder Miranda Valerio and infielder Gionna Merhtens both received all-conference accolades as members of the second team. Merhtens, a freshman middle infielder from Catawba, tallied a .417 batting average this spring season.

Ismael Agreda collected his first win of 2025 with a sterling five innings of work, while the offense performed in a very efficient way, shutting out the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 7-0 on Tuesday night at LP Frans Stadium. Tonight’s game at the Frans is the first of 12 in 13 days, the longest home stretch of the season for Hickory, and featured a couple of multi-hit games from Maxton Martin and Rafe Perich.

The Catawba Valley Community College baseball team advanced to the Region 10/South Atlantic District championship game with three wins this past weekend at Burlington Athletic Park. The Red Hawks (42-16), who are ranked 18th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II pol, punched their ticket to Friday’s championship game with a 4-3 win against Bryant & Stratton in 12 innings on Sunday.

Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Track & Field programs look to continue their string of success at the National Championships this year in Pueblo, Colorado. The men’s team sees two individuals selected, with Havyn Spain going in the 400m and Oliver Thatcher in the Decathlon. Spain has had a breakout freshman campaign for the Bears, winning the SAC Outdoor Championship in the 400 meters with a time of 46.69, which set a new school record and ranks him 17th in the country.

App State Tennis sophomore Taya Powell has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced Tuesday. Boasting a 3.77 GPA, the North Tamworth, Australia native has excelled both academically and athletically. Her strong performance on the court this season earned her a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference second team for doubles, alongside Savannah Dada-Mascoll, concluding the 2025 season.
Three Area Basketball Players Earn Spots on East-West All-Star Game Rosters

The North Carolina East-West All Star Games are starting to release their rosters for the July contests that pit the best just graduated players from the eastern half of the state against the western half of the state. First, in the women’s basketball game, representing the Hickory Metro will be Peyton Caldwell from Freedom and Braelyn Stilwell of East Burke. In the men’s basketball game, Raheim Misher from Maiden will suit up for the west squad.
