Massive fin whale carcass that washed ashore on Cape Cod put to rest off Chatham coastThe whale was towed more than 50 miles offshore on May 17, to decompose naturally at sea, authorities said. The adult female whale was discovered May 8 on a sandbar along the shoreline. It was the largest whale stranding the International Fund for Animal Welfare on Cape Cod has ever handled, according to the organization.
