Salesianum School baseball opens Fusco Field with win over Tower Hill School

WILMINGTON — It was a night of firsts at Salesianum on March 25 when the baseball team opened Fusco Field under the lights against Tower Hill. The defending state champion Sals combined solid pitching with great defense and clutch hitting in a 13-2 victory in the season opener. John Burnowski provided the leather on the first batter of the game, making a diving stop at third base.

Lang played his high school baseball at Salesianum Sals before committing to Eastern University where he has been a four year member of the baseball team. The weather is picture perfect this week as girls soccer is heading down the home stretch as April ends and May starts mid week.. The regular season ends on May 15th. The No.4 team in Division 2 is in the middle of a 6 match road trip with a;; of them coming against ranked teams. They are currently 2-1 with the loss coming to No. 2 Saint Mark’s on Friday. This week they head to No. 1 Caravel and two more ranked teams. This schedule will help them when the state tournament starts mid May.

The boys’ lacrosse season heats up this week and we are hoping the weather is nice as it was on Sunday, The season has reached its halfway point. The No. 1 team Sallies has already p;ayed two thirds of its schedule and will take a 9-0 record into its final third of the season. In those 6 games the Sals will face 4 nationally ranked teams and its biggest in state Lax rival Cape Henlopen. They have Radnor (PA), Malvern Prep (PA), Lawrenceville (NJ), IMG Academy (FL), and Upper Arlington (OH).

The weather doesn’t look good again this week as the girls soccer resumes play for the final 4 week sprint to the state tournament.. This week we have a Division 2 semifinal rematch as No. Saint Marks travels to Friends on Tuesday. These teams split the two matches last season as Friends won 3-0 at Saint Mark’s on May 8th. Then these two teams met in the semifinals on May 31st at Saint Marks. The Spartans won that one 4-2.

The boys’ lacrosse season heats up this week as everyone is now done with spring breaks and the season hits its stride with a lot of big games this week. The No. 3 Archmere Auks are coming into their big game with No. 1 Sallies on Wednesday night with a 1-3 record but don‚Äôt let that fool you.¬† Their 3 losses are to out of state teams and now they can see where they stand in Delaware when they face nationally ranked Sallies.
