There’s a new grab-and-go Japanese-inspired inari and sushi spot in Downtown Vancouver and it is by some familiar names!Red Wasabi, a fresh-faced eatery specializing in inari, donburi, futomaki and kimbap, quietly soft opened in Yaletown last week, taking over the former Glory Juice unit. We dropped by anonymously and were met with a warm welcome from the owner and his wife, who walked us through their beautifully arranged offerings.

The matcha craze in Vancouver is going to get even crazier!Toronto’s ultra-popular Matcha Matcha has officially set its sights westward, teasing fans with a big announcement on Instagram: they’re expanding to Vancouver. The post simply reads, “Which Vancouver neighbourhood do you want to see us in? 👀” but that’s all it took to get the internet talking. Comments quickly rolled in with hopeful requests for locations like Downtown and Mount Pleasant.

It looks like Vancouver’s ramen scene is about to get a new contender and it’s got some seriously cute mascot vibes!Back in April, we reported that Wabukuro, the Japanese bento and convenience store off Keefer near International Village, had quietly closed and was undergoing a mysterious transformation. The spot, once stocked with karaage bentos and shelves of snacks, had been closed for “maintenance” since November 2024.

Grocery lovers on the West Side, you’re in for a fresh update. Local grocer Fresh St. Market is set to expand with a second Vancouver location – this time in Kitsilano. We spotted signage confirming that the BC-based chain will be opening on the ground floor of Kitsilano Block, a new mixed-use development at the corner of West 4th Avenue and Macdonald Street. According to the signs posted outside the site, the market is expected to open in late 2025.

There’s a new reason to stop along East Broadway and it smells like fresh-baked brioche and matcha!Moodbe Cafe, a new Korean-inspired coffee and bakeshop, has quietly soft opened across from Kingsgate Mall as of June 7. Tipped off by a Noms Mag community member (by E), we dropped in to see what the buzz was about. Ira Jean Fernandez, Moodbe’s Project Manager, shared with Noms Magazine that the inspiration behind the cafe was a personal one for the owner.
