OROVILLE, Calif. - Law enforcement is responding to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in Oroville. CAL FIRE said they received and responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash at about 5:10 p.m. in the area of Grand Avenue and Table Mountain Boulevard. Upon arrival, CAL FIRE found someone with moderate injuries on the scene. CAL FIRE, EMS and Oroville Police responded to the scene. CAL FIRE said this is all the information they could provide regarding the incident.

REDDING, Calif. - A woman died from fire injuries after being pulled out of a fire in Redding. The Redding Fire Department said that at about 1:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire at the 1800 block of Del Mar Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews worked quickly to suppress a working structure fire. Crews are also starting to look for victims. RFD said they found an elderly woman inside the structure. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where she died due to her fire injuries.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - 33-year-old Matthew Arians Moen from Concow was sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison for the 2022 DUI deaths of two college students. Butte County Superior Court Judge Virginia Gingery sentenced Moen to the maximum terms following a jury verdict of two counts of second-degree murder of 22-year-old Cassi Tejeda and 24-year-old Courtney Kendall when Moen drove under the influence at speeds over 75 miles per hour in a 25-mile school zone.

CALIFORNIA - A new California law now formally bans the use of any Native American terms as mascots for K–12 schools. Schools can be exempted from the new law if they can provide reasoning for the nickname. All schools in California still using a Native American mascot will have to change their mascots by July 1, 2026. High schools in our area that could be impacted include the Hamilton Braves, the Modoc Braves, and the Marysville Indians. By: Javier Hernandez

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - The Park Fire in Northern California burned 429,603 acres and is 100% contained. The fire started on July 24, 2024, in Chico’s Upper Bidwell Park. The fire burned in both Tehama and Butte counties. We reached out to CAL FIRE to get the numbers on how many homes were damaged and burned in California’s 4th largest wildfire in history.

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. - The California Patrol Highway yielded two loaded guns, drugs, and a large amount of money during a traffic stop in Siskiyou County on October 1. On Tuesday at about 10 p.m., a Yreka area officer pulled over a car for weaving onto the shoulder for traveling northbound on Highway 97 near Angel Valley Road. The CHP said once the officer contacted the person in the car, the officer saw multiple indicators of criminal activity and intoxication.

DURHAM, Calif. - There are 43 PG&E customers without power in Durham. At the beginning of the outage, 1,338 PG&E customers were without power in Durham. According to the PG&E outage map, the outage was reported at about 4:30 p.m. PG&E said the cause of the outage was a car breaking a wooden pole. The location where this happened is unknown.
