At 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds, Pettus grew up mostly as a football player. In fact, he grew up playing Pop Warner Football for the Pfafftown Packers. He also played some basketball as a child. “Football is more entertaining to me,” he said.

Against East Forsyth this past Tuesday in Kernersville, Gabby Vestal led West Forsyth with five goals as it won 17-2. West Forsyth led 13-0 at halftime. “We started the week with a conference game traveling to East Forsyth. East is definitely rebuilding.

The leading sport for signees was football, coached by Kevin Wallace, in which five Titans signed. Daviare Eldridge signed with Winston-Salem State. According to MaxPreps.com, Eldridge finished last season with 34 tackles, including 20 solo, in 11 games.

Now a senior at 18, if you ask him, it’s all been a work in progress since he started playing the sport 12 years ago. “One of my neighbors, he began playing when I was younger,” he said.

West Forsyth is 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the Central Piedmont 4-A as of Monday.
