Lawson, who has been serving as the chairman of the planning board, was the mayor of Lewisville from 2005-2007, followed by three consecutive terms on the town council from 2007-2013 — for a total of eight consecutive years.

Hanes, who has a 4.54 GPA and is starting for a perennially good girls soccer team, was on the girls track-and-field team her freshman season. But like many high-school athletes now, Hanes elected to focus on just one sport – soccer. However, she wishes it didn’t have to be that way.

West Forsyth couldn’t hold on to a big third-quarter lead as it fell to No. 7 Watauga 62-59 in the third round of the NCHSAA Class 4-A boys basketball tournament at Simpson Gym. The Titans (26-4) led 49-36 after senior Jacari Brim hit a layup with 2:36 left in the third quarter.
