Greetings, everyone, and thank you for watching. Thursday is the 74th annual National Day of Prayer. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to national prayer has continued throughout our history, including in 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln signed Proclamation 97, appointing a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer.

Greetings, everyone, and thank you for watching. The celebrated ending of World War I fighting came at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, 1918. The day became known as Armistice Day. On May 13, 1938, a congressional act was approved making Nov. 11 a legal holiday known as Armistice Day. In 1954, Congress changed the word "Armistice" to "Veterans," and so Nov. 11 has become a day to honor all American veterans wherever and whenever they have served.

Greetings, everyone, and thank you for watching. Last week, on Flag Day, I shared some thoughts on the American flag. This week, I want to share some thoughts on the Wisconsin state flag. The Wisconsin flag was originally designed in 1863 for use during the Civil War. The flag featured the state coat of arms on a field of dark blue. In 1979, Wisconsin added its name and the date 1848 in big white letters; 1848 was the year of statehood. The symbolism on the flag is highly meaningful.
