QUINCY (WGEM) - Rain or shine, Germanfest took over Quincy’s South Park this weekend. Hundreds of people showed up to listen to traditional German music and celebrate Quincy’s German heritage. They even had traditional German food, like bratwursts, and beer for attendees to enjoy. The money raised at the event is to bolster ties to Quincy’s sister city in Germany.

QUINCY (WGEM) - On Friday, the John Wood Community College Board of Trustees appointed Josh Welker as interim president during a special board meeting. Welker is JWCC’s Dean of Business Services and Institutional Effectiveness. Welker will be taking over for current JWCC President Dr. Bryan Renfro. Renfro took a position at Eastern Iowa Community College as chancellor. Welker will begin his role as president starting on July 1. The board hopes to find its eighth president by late fall.

FORT MADISON (WGEM) - The National Weather Service confirmed on Thursday that the storm that blew through Fort Madison on Tuesday evening produced an EF-0 tornado. NWS said the tornado touched down southwest of Fort Madison. They said the storm produced winds up to 80 mph with a path length of .17 miles long and 10 yards wide. The tornado was on the ground for a total of 2 minutes. The storm caused damage throughout Fort Madison and derailed a train in Lee County near 239th Avenue.

QUINCY (WGEM) - A Chicago man was sentenced to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Thursday. According to the Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office, on April 8, 2025, Latwaon J. McCray, 45, was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance stemming from a controlled buy of heroin at 926 N 4th St.McCray pleaded guilty on April 10, 2025, to selling more than one gram, but less than fifteen grams of heroin.

MONROE COUNTY, Mo. (WGEM) - A Vandalia, Missouri, man died on Wednesday after a crash on Highway 154 in Monroe County on Tuesday. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, on Tuesday at 10:35 p.m., a 2005 GMC Envoy was traveling westbound on Highway 154 when it ran off the left side of the road, overturned, and ejected the driver, a 62-year-old man from Vandalia, Mo., and a passenger, a 36-year-old Moberly, Mo., man.
