I could write a book on my style evolution, given that I wore bell-bottoms in the first grade and Versace to my Bat Mitzvah. But today, we’re just going to talk about how my clothing choices have evolved since becoming a mom. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like there’s this unspoken resistance among new moms when it comes to acknowledging change. It’s like we know it’s happening, but we don’t really want to admit it.

Between ’s trend roundup of shell motifs and her new Mermaid Mother archetype to ’s mermaid summer aesthetic, and ’s nod to the sea, I thought I’d share my beauty take on aquatic mermaid vibes. Mine is kind of like an ethereal Botticelli meets Jewish summer camp (stay with me). Basically, the vibe is playful, slightly celestial, with a touch of boho and sun protection.

I’m just going to say it, and you can agree or disagree, but the connotation of the word skinny today feels like a bad one. Instead, the use of an adjective like strong or beautiful feels safe. Truthfully, we shouldn’t be talking about anyone’s body besides our own, but lately, #skinnytok (of course, via TikTok) is rapidly gaining traction, and it’s scary. Being skinny has always been the end-all be-all for me. I won’t lie, it still is. I want to be skinny, but I also know there’s a toxicity to it.

I try a lot of beauty products, but that doesn’t mean I add many to my beauty routine. Actually, I add very little. Because most products are just fine and not worth it. I like a quick and easy beauty regimen. I can’t stand clutter; therefore, if it’s not being used, it doesn’t have a place in my bathroom. I get rid of products fast. I know what I like. I know what works for me. And most of all, I know when a product is truly good.

The other day, I was having a conversation with five people, six including myself. Out of the six of us, four were taking creatine. Buzzy? I think so. Beneficial? Apparently!They all began taking it fairly recently. I was not one of the six, but I am endlessly fascinated by how this ingredient has been re-marketed. Let’s just say it outright: Creatine is a comeback queen. It used to deliver one thing, but now it sort of delivers another, thanks to new research, i.e., cognitive function.

In Lisa’s words, her newsletter includes “essays from a recovering CEO, one morning page at a time.” Her personal essays are fascinating and beautifully written. So, that inspired me to write one this week. That said, I would call mine more of an experiment. I wrote a version of this for my college essay, which I haven’t looked at in 20 years.
