GENEVA, IL (KTIV) - Now that is how you start a season. Matched up against last seasons American Association champs to open the year the Sioux City Explorers came out firing. At least starting pitcher Kyle Marman did tossing 7 innings of no hit ball, while only giving up one earned run. Marman walked the leadoff batter in the 8th before being pulled. The game would come down to the 9th inning when tied at 1 with the bases loaded Abdiel Layer would send a flyball towards the corner in right.

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KTIV) - Sometimes in baseball it just isn’t your day. That was the case for the Wayne State Wildcats on Thursday at the NSIC Tournament. Taking on Augustana to open the day, the Vikings would score 17 runs across the 5th and 6th innings as Augie would top the Wildcats 25-5. Wayne State would then turn around and take on St. Cloud State in an elimination game but their luck would not change falling 19-5. The Wildcats wrap their season with a 30-22 record.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - It took a little bit of overtime from the Beavers, but Buena Vista would survive an upset bid from Wartburg to open their postseason run. Entering the American Rivers Conference tournament as the number one seed BVU certainly had a target on their back. The Beavers would be tied with Wartburg at 4 at the end of the 9th inning. An error in the tenth from Wartburg would help send the winning run home for the Beavers who would win 5-4.

BROOKINGS, SD (KTIV) - South Dakota needed 7 runs to win their Summit League Softball Tournament opener against Kansas City.
