    The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) has partnered with Philippine Airlines (PAL) to host the 2025 Asia Pacific Aviation Safety Seminar (APASS 2025) in Manila. The two-day event will be held on September 10-11, 2025 at the Hilton Manila. The biannual event was last held in 2018 in Seoul, and the upcoming seminar will be the first since the COVID-19 pandemic.

    A ‘modified’ hairdryer packed inside a checked suitcase triggered a security alert at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE), prompting the evacuation of the airport. The airport was closed for two and half hours due to the incident, which occurred on April 13, 2025. Security scanners were triggered when the object was detected inside a checked suitcase, and was later revealed to be a hairdryer that had been patched up and held together with tape.

    Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that it has started renovation and upgrade works on its SilverKris and KrisFlyer Gold lounges at Changi International Airport (SIN). The refurbishment, valued at SGD 45 million (US$34 million), officially began on April 15, 2025, and is expected to be completed by mid-2027. According to Singapore Airlines, the revamped lounges will feature 50% more space and seating capacity, and include upgraded facilities.

    Japan’s Oita Airport (OIT) has officially changed its name to ‘Oita Hello Kitty Airport’ but only for the next six months. Oita Airport is an international airport in Kunisaki City, Oita Prefecture and, for the duration of Expo 2025 in Osaka (April 13 to October 13, 2025), it will officially be known by its charming new name. The airport will retain its original name after the expo.
