If wars and disasters shake ideas and convictions, how has no proposal that goes beyond immediate policy been put forward as this war rages on? The Levant is disintegrating, to say nothing about the exceptional suffering the Israelis are inflicting upon the Palestinians, or its humiliation of Syria and Lebanon and the losses it has inflicted upon them.

Two major phenomena/catastrophes have weighed on the Levant for decades: one is military coups and security states that grew out of them- Syria and Iraq were its two theatres- and the next is militia groups whose main presence was in Lebanon. These two phenomena, although their last representatives have fallen, should be revisited time and again; we should bring them up consistently in order to draw lessons from these experiences and avoid repeating them.

Discussing the reconstruction of Gaza without its inhabitants, the Mar-a-Lago resort could serve as an alternative for Gaza’s residents. Since the goal is to turn Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East," it would only make sense to house them in another resort so they can later adapt to life in this Riviera and become fit to live in it. Former US President Donald Trump has said that Palestinians would live safely somewhere else.

Over the course of this conflict, one of our era’s longest, wars were temporarily or permanently stopped through ceasefire agreements and arrangements. They were often concluded through foreign intervention crowned by a Security Council resolution. The most recent ceasefire agreement was concluded just yesterday, and it went into force in the early hours of Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

It is true that the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon is a replica of agreements made over the past forty years, all of which failed to prevent subsequent wars. However, this war and this agreement differ from previous ones, and we might witness its implementations starting next year. In my opinion, this will change the concept of conflict through Lebanon. The important question: What is new and different about this agreement?

The region was spared a real catastrophe, but only temporarily, when both Pakistan and Iran were content with mutual strikes on the borders of the two countries, after the unprecedented attack carried out by Tehran on the Pakistani border. The Iranian assault on Pakistani territory almost led to a real catastrophe, given that Pakistan is a nuclear state, with a population of 250 million, and a strong army. Any military confrontation between Iran and Pakistan would spark a major sectarian war.

The phrase “Made from recycled materials” was what first caught my eye, printed on a label attached to a sweater. Upon closer examination, I found that the word recycled referred to the small label itself, and not the sweater, which was not made from used or recyclable materials. This is an extreme form of fraud that seeks to deceive the consumer while also avoiding prosecution.
