One of the most popular reader engagements we have done for the past five years is the Reader’s Choice Best of the Star contest. Every year we have done the contest, I will get SEVERAL calls and emails asking how a business or person can get a name added to the list of nominations. Unfortunately, it is usually after the nomination phase is over so I can only say that they will have to wait until next May to catch the next year’s contest.

Exciting changes are coming to the Kanabec County Times and Advertiser on March 28 and 29. Times readers in the Mora zip code will receive a larger newspaper because all of the ads in the Advertiser will now be in the Times. As a subscriber, or if you purchase the Times on the newsstand, you will see these ads one day sooner than those who read the Advertiser. Times readers will also be the only ones in the area able to see the weekly TV listings, a popular feature for some.

Last year I wrote this column reminding readers that we had gotten complaints after the nominating phase closed in the past so they needed to make sure to go to our website and nominate. The response was huge as there was a 185% increase in the number of nominations over the previous year. So here we go again, the nomination period for the fifth annual Reader’s Choice Best of the Star contest is NOW!Between May 1 and May 19 we will be accepting nominations.

My mother recently contacted me with some exciting news. She had just received three copies of her hometown newspaper that she subscribes to, almost two months after its publish date. Late delivery of the newspaper is something she frequently brings up in our calls, to which I always reply that she can look at the newspaper online usually the same day it is published. And she always replies that she prefers to read the printed edition. I get it. I do, too.
