    Three high school athletes brought the spring sports season to a close in grand fashion, each competing in their respective sports’ state tournaments. Sophomore Joe Sampson competed at the state tennis tournament on June 5 and 6. He opened against Joshua Cook from Minnehaha Academy, the number two seed in Class A. After dropping a competitive opening set 4-6, Sampson was blanked 0-6 in the second; Cook would go on to finish third in the tournament.

    Grasston may be seeing some relief soon from a residence within city limits that has a glut of tires on its property. At the same time, Kanabec County is grappling with what it should do with a tire pile on an acreage in tax forfeiture. A solution to at least one of these problems may be close at hand. Grasston Mayor Bill Tomczak told the Kanabec County Board of Commissioners during its public comment period that a residence within city limits had approximately 640 tires on its land.
