Martens loses Supreme Court appeal

A Mora man convicted in 2022 of third-degree criminal sexual assault will not get a new trial. Ryan James Martens, 41, had appealed his guilty verdict to the Minnesota Supreme Court, seeking to overturn a 2023 decision by the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Martens contended that his admission to a therapist that he had sex with a child should not have been admissible at trial. A jury found Martens guilty on April 23, 2023, on the charge of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

A judged denied her a furlough from jail in order to attend her son’s funeral.

The Mustangs were in Cambridge on Thursday to face a senior-heavy Bluejackets team that is hoping to be among the leaders of Section 7AA. Two Ogilvie School District residents have thrown their hats into the ring to be the next school board member. Carl Boudreau and Amanda Stevenson have both applied for the position. “At the February school board meeting, when we accepted the resignation (of board member Jim Hanna), and we said we were going to accept applications from the public, so we have done that,” Superintendent Kevin Ricke said.
