A slow moving cold front will continue to trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms into the weekend. Short term model data shows the focus for storms will shift farther to the southeast today and tomorrow with max chance of precipitation on today from the Allegheny Plateau/Laurel Highlands into the central ridge and shifting into the Susquehanna Valley tomorrow. A marginal/low risk for isolated strong/severe wind gusts and heavy downpours will exist primarily today.

CLEARFIELD — Lawrence Township is looking for two people to serve on the planning commission, township Code Enforcement Officer Agatha Lauder said following Tuesday night’s meeting of the board of supervisors. The planning commission meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. The planning commission reviews and makes recommendations to the board of supervisors on whether or not they should be approved.

21 Years AgoSixty years ago, a 21-year-old draftee in the U.S. Army Berton “Buck” Moyer of Clearfield stepped off a landing craft and onto Omaha Beach as part of one of the largest amphibious invasions in history. “I was never so scared in my life,” Mr. Moyer said. He was part of the second waive of the D-Day invasion of Normandy in Northern France that hit the beach a few hours after the first wave. Mr. Moyer was a sniper in the 1st Division of the U.S. Army.

Summertime warmth and increasing humidity will promote a minor to moderate heat risk today and tomorrow afternoon. Wildfire smoke combined with the sizable warmup resulted in reduced air quality and code orange alert for the Lower Susquehanna Valley on Wednesday. It was also the third consecutive dry day for most before turning unsettled with episodic periods of rain and thunderstorms Thursday afternoon through Saturday.
