The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday’s lottery drawing has increased to an estimated $100 million, with a cash option of $45.3 million. The drawing will be held at 10:59 p.m. and televised on WABC-7 in New York City and Fox 29 in Philadelphia. NJ.com will publish the winning numbers after the drawing. No one across the country hit Tuesday’s $90 million jackpot. There were also no second-prize tickets of at least $2 million sold. Tuesday’s winning numbers were: 16, 17, 43, 46 and 58.
N.J. man, mother charged with disposing of body over Rt. 80 bridge

A 25-year-old New Jersey man and his mother have been charged with dumping a body over a bridge on Route 80 in Pennsylvania in October 2023. Rahsaan A. Goines is charged with hindering apprehension, abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence, according to online court records. Davere Andre McClain, 52, is charged with killing Kevin Cagle, 19 in Williamsport on Oct. 11, 2023. McClain was dating Goines’ mother, Chata Harris, 49, according to the SunGazette.com.
Person stabbed to death in Toms River

A person was stabbed to death in Toms River on Friday morning, officials said. The stabbing took place around 7:20 a.m. on Adams Avenue, a block off busy Route 37, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said. Authorities didn’t identify the victim or announce an arrest. The Lakewood Scoop, a local news website that was the first to report on the stabbing, posted a video showing a person being taken into custody and reported that two people were shot or stabbed.
Paramus Catholic High School grad killed in N.Y. crash

A Paramus Catholic High School graduate was killed in a crash in upstate New York earlier this week, officials said. Samantha Lezin, 26, died Tuesday after her car was struck head-on by a pickup truck that crossed the double yellow line on Route 6 in Woodbury, Orange County, according to New York State Police. The driver of the pickup truck was traveling east when he veered across the road and struck Lezin’s westbound vehicle, police said.
3 teens started fire that caused $521K in damage to playground, cops say

Two 14-year-old girls and a 13-year-old boy have been charged with starting a fire that caused almost $521,000 in damage to a playground in a Middlesex County park, officials said. The three teens ignited the fire shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Park in Middlesex Borough, police said Thursday. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. No one was injured.

Friday will be a rainy day in New Jersey with some flooding possible before we dry out in time for the weekend, forecasters say. Up to an additional inch of rain is expected to fall in the state before the system departs on Saturday morning with showers and occasional thunderstorms persisting through the day. Parents charged with beating 3-month-old baby to death, N.J. officials say

Two Lakewood parents have been charged in the beating death of their 3-month-old daughter on Monday night, authorities said. Lakewood police were called to a home on Pinehurst Drive around 7:20 p.m. Monday and found a baby who was having difficulty breathing, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday. The girl died of her injuries at an area hospital the next day. An investigation revealed the baby suffered a fractured skull from repeated blows to the head, causing brain bleeding.
Police car involved in 4-vehicle crash in N.J. city

An Elizabeth police car responding to a call was involved in a four-vehicle crash Tuesday in the city, authorities said. The patrol vehicle had its lights and sirens on when it was t-boned by another vehicle at the corner of Elizabeth Ave and 2nd Street, a city spokeswoman said. Two other vehicles behind the car that struck the police car were then involved in a chain-reaction crash. The officers went to an area hospital to be checked while another driver was treated for a wrist injury.
N.J. high school closes for day after smoke pours from cafeteria fridge

A high school in Bergen County closed for the day on Thursday due to smoke in the cafeteria kitchen, local officials said. Firefighters were called to Pascack Valley High School at about 4:55 a.m., and found smoke pouring from a refrigerator in the kitchen that spread into duct work above, the Hillsdale Fire Department said. No one was injured. The situation was brought under control about a half-hour later, fire officials said. The cause of the smoke remains under investigation.
