    VINTON — The streaks continue for the the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes. Streak one came Thursday night as the Vikes ran their winning streak to three with a 3-0-zip win over Celar Creek-Amana at the Karr Athletic Complex. Streak two goes to freshman goalkeeper Rylee Boggess and her defensive wall for a fourth-straight shutout that includes their 0-0 drama with Marion two week prior. The match was scoreless through the first half, but Payton Lefevere cured that in a hurry.

    VAN HORNE — Vinton-Shellsburg and Benton were set to battle on the Bobcat Stadium pitch Tuesday night, but while they were focused on each other, together they had a common foe to battle:The wind. The two teams fought to a 2-2 tie in the match that was greatly affected by the 30-plus MPH winds out of the west/northwest that seemed to make every ball an adventure. It would be the Vikes who struck first and in a most spectacular way.

    VINTON — Both Vinton-Shellsburg soccer teams broke into the win column in a big way Monday as they swept a pair from Cedar Valley Christian. In the opener, the Vikettes need just 50 minutes to knock out the Huskies, 10-0. Lily Griffith, Molly Zearley, Payton LeFevere and Sadie Burke had two goals each, while Addy and Lainey Phippen had a goal each. In the boys’ game, the Vikings got goals from Kyler Messer, Cal Lessig and Zack Dickenson on the way to a 3-0 shutout.

    VAN HORNE — After going four games into the season with just one goal, Coach Megan Hesson’s Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ soccer team broke out of their scoring drought in a big way. Following up Monday’s 10-0 win over Cedar Valley Christian (see accompanying story), the Vikettes (2-3-1) kept the ball rolling Tuesday with a 5-0 win over Benton. The Vikettes were paced by senior Molly Zearley, who scored her first career hat trick on the day, giving her five goals in two days.
