Mark Briggs was introduced Thursday as the second coach in the history of the Birmingham Legion FC franchise. He talked about his first step to change the culture of a team that has been struggling. It had nothing to do with set pieces or lineup changes. "First and foremost, you hear music playing," Briggs said as the speakers were blaring out a playlist in the Legion locker room, located well within earshot of the Briggs' introductory press conference.

Alex Palou always has a big smile on his face when he talks about two things. Racing at Barber Motorsports Park. And his 17-month-old daughter Lucia. Palou got his first IndyCar Series win at Barber in 2021, taking the checkers at the Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix. He went on to win the first of three IndyCar Series championships driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. "That's how we started, right?" said Palou.

Annette Sanderson, the wife of former Alabama men's basketball coach Wimp Sanderson, passed away on Wednesday. She was 86 years old. Annette, born Nov. 19, 1938, in Florence, Alabama, attended Coffee High School. She and Wimp Sanderson met there, marrying in October after her senior year of high school. The Sandersons were married for 67 years. Wimp was a graduate assistant coach at Alabama in 1960, then became an assistant coach for the Crimson Tide for the next 20 years.
