NEW! by Kyle Patrick (IC: employee) Not everyone wants to drive an SUV. Sometimes, the humble compact car is the better tool for the job. The advantages are numerous. Not only are compact cars more affordable and offer better fuel economy, they also tend to drive better than their high-riding siblings. The pickings are slimmer now than they were a decade ago, but there are still eight new compact cars available on the market.

Triple digits followed in the spring, and the Rangers couldn’t pass on Hales in the fourth round in 2023. Now a robust 220 pounds, he is eclipsing 100 mph. Hales finished the 2024 season at Double-A Frisco and was dispatched to the Arizona Fall League for another test that should serve him well after the first full season of his career. “It’s kind of going along with the learning curve,” Hales said. “The beginning of the year was a little tough because I didn’t have my full routine yet.

Skip to content Triple-A Round Rock’s season ended on Sept. 22 in Tacoma, but 40-man roster players weren’t done yet. They had a trip to the Rangers’ complex in Surprise, Ariz., waiting for them. This group of players remained active for a few additional weeks during a season in which injuries affected every corner of the Rangers’ roster.

While his numbers through mid May suggested a struggle, the Rangers liked what they saw in his key performance indicators and thought it was only a matter of time until they translated on the field. They were right.

The way things were trending the past two seasons, 24-year-old righthander Cole Winn appeared to be permanently on the outside of the Rangers’ pitching plans. His relationship with the strike zone was on the rocks, so much so that the Rangers transitioned their 2018 first-round pick to the bullpen. He had some success there in 2023 and to start 2024. Then, the Rangers needed a reliever, and they needed someone who was on the 40-man roster.

On paper, many of the new Forester’s mechanical specs appear to have changed at a glacial rate. Most will view the loss of two horsepower as a step backwards (it’s now a modest 180 hp), and the increase of 2 lb-ft of torque as inconsequential. But the peak torque arrives with 700 fewer revs, making the Forester more engaging than before. Plus, the host of incremental changes throughout the engine are also meant to improve not only driveability, but long-term durability as well.

The 23-year-old third baseman hit .298/.359/.490 with six home runs through 42 games. Freeman’s bat suffered during his time behind the plate, because the Rangers put a heavy emphasis on defense with their young catchers. He’s still doing pregame work behind the plate, including catching bullpen sessions, but the Rangers need him at third base. But without the grind of catching, Freeman is seeing better results at the plate.

NEW! by Jeff Wilson (IC: employee) Photos by: Jeff WilsonIt was an impressive flex by Subaru. Not only had they invited a handful of automotive reviewers to come and sample the highest-performing versions of their WRX and BRZ models at Shannonville Motorsport Park, but then they made it pour with rain. For most car companies, rain at a track event spells disaster, but for Subaru it simply helped show off just what makes a car like the WRX so great.

NEW! by Jeff Wilson (IC: employee) What happens when the mad scientists in Subaru’s STI performance division get ahold of the company’s purest, lightest, razor-sharp sports car? Do they add a turbo, or a bunch more power? Well, errr, no, but they still managed to make one of our favourite bargain sports cars better. What's New: The Brembo Effect The most significant single change to the BRZ tS is probably the addition of the Brembo braking kit.
