(WBOY) — On Tuesday morning, Lewis and Gilmer counties dedicated their new emergency operation center to William F. “Bill” Rowan who brought the 911 emergency response number to the areas. This new facility replaces one that had not been upgraded since 1990. The building includes bulletproof glass and is up to code. The center also has capabilities for people to text 911 as well as allow emergency personnel to see the scene of the emergency through the caller’s phone.

(WBOY) — As the Trump Administration cuts down on the Department of Health and Human Services, one of the branches that will likely be impacted is SAMHSA, or the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. One of SAMHSA’s roles is facilitating the 988 suicide and crisis prevention hotline, which in West Virginia is run by First Choice Services in Charleston and is mostly funded by the state government.
Major West Virginia teachers unions merge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Two major teachers unions in West Virginia are merging together into one organization. Delegates from the West Virginia Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers-West Virginia (AFT-WV) voted on Saturday to merge the two organizations and starting Sept. 1, they will be known as “Education West Virginia”. Plans to merge the two organizations began back in 2018 when they worked together during the state’s teachers’ strike.

WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — On Sunday, Lewis County High School hosted a memorial service for Darley “Seth” Stalnaker, who passed away on March 11, 2024 at the age of 18 years old. At the service, attendees were invited to remember Seth and observe a memorial tree that was planted in the high school’s courtyard.
