    After a close vote, the Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of property for an animal adoption center. Commissioners Bob Blackburn, Jeffrey Fisher and John Reidelbach approved the purchase, while Commissioners Bill McKenzie and Al Smith voted in opposition. The property is approximately 45.8 acres. The county anticipates allocating $3.745 million in 2025 special purpose local option sales tax revenue for the adoption center and spending $850,000 to purchase the land.

    County staff opened bids for the expansion of Leroy Johnson Park at the Board of Commissioners recent meeting. Additions to the park include four new baseball fields, a standalone restroom, six pickleball courts and two tennis courts. The expansion will be completed in stages by Public Works, Facilities Management and contractors.

    Financial experts said Coweta County is handling its tens of millions of dollars correctly at the recent Coweta County Board of Commissioners Meeting. Greg Chapman, a CPA with Nichols, Cauley & Associates LLC, reported an audit of fiscal year 2024 to the commissioners and gave the county a clean report. According to Chapman, the county's annual comprehensive financial report goes above and beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.

    A portion of a private road is being taken over by the county. After requests for assistance by Wyatt Road residents, the Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved the use of eminent domain to claim right-of-way on a private portion of Wyatt Road at its Tuesday night meeting. The portion of the gravel road is approximately 678 feet and is owned by two property owners that do not live along the road.
