When President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, he is expected to hit the ground running. A few months into his presidency, he will likely release the fiscal year (FY) 2026 president’s budget request. He could release a preliminary budget request in February or March and a full budget request in April or May.

Although I previously declared January 2024 Medicare Advantage (MA) Month, this week has also been filled with news about the MA program. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released two final regulatory documents related to MA: the final rate announcement that establishes payment rates for calendar year (CY) 2025 and a final reg that determines major MA policies in CY 2025 and beyond.

March 21, 2024 – Today marks one month since United Health Group’s (UHG) Change Healthcare reported that it had been hit by a cybersecurity attack. The attack has caused a major disruption to the US healthcare system, significantly impacting the cash flow of health systems and physician groups and in some cases impeding patients’ ability to access the care they need.
