    PROCTOR, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Golf courses around the Northland opened up this weekend, and many golfers couldn’t wait to get out. The Proctor Golf Course was one of the local courses to open. After opening a few weeks ago, they were forced to close after a late March snowfall, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. on, they were fully booked. “Just got the itch, needed to play, I guess. I don’t know, it’s fun. I’ve been waiting all winter, honestly,” said Donnie Sherman.

    DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - About a thousand people made their way to Downtown Duluth for the annual Fitger’s 5K. The course took runners east along Duluth’s Superior Street, down a stretch of London Road, and back. Duluth native Scott Behling finished first in the 5K by just two seconds, while another Duluth native, Calla Gilbertson, took home first prize for the women. All the finishers got a T-shirt and a medal.

This weekend, golfers can rejoice as many courses around the Twin Ports have announced they will be open after a heavy snow just a week ago. “They were wet, really wet about three days ago, and since then it’s just dried out great,” said Tim Landgreen, owner of the Northern Pines Golf Course for the past 25 years.
