    DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Lily Haldorsen was born near Trondheim Fjord in Norway in 1917. Her father heeded the advice of relatives and emigrated to Duluth in 1923 as his whole village waved goodbye. “My mother wasn’t very happy about but off we went, on a big beautiful ocean liner that had just been built,” said Lily during a 2023 interview. Later in life, Lily would paint a picture of that vessel that took her family to New York City.

    DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The St. Louis County Sheriff’s office has identified the canoer pulled from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Saturday. The body was identified as 62-year-old Saint Louis Park, MN resident, Robert Sydney James. Forest service employees reported they located a capsized canoe on Iron Lake in the Boundary Waters. USFS employees found James floating near the canoe, wearing a life jacket.
