Boerne senior Hudson McNew made everything look easy at the plate in a 20-3 win over Alamo Heights in District 26-5A action last week. The slugger went 4 for 4 and drove in nine runs, eye-popping stats by themselves, but the way he drove in those runs earned him Express-News Athlete of the Week.

KATY - What started as a trickle soon turned into a wave, one Southwest is riding all the way to the state championship game. The Dragons scored four second-half goals in a dominant 5-0 victory over Angleton in a Class 5A Division I boys soccer state semifinal Friday at Legacy Stadium. The victory sends Southwest to it first state title game appearance. "It's for (the players). We do everything for them. We're so happy," Southwest coach Juan Romero said.

Smithson Valley senior Arianna Capek tossed a gem in a 3-0 win over Alamo Heights last week and reached 500 career strikeouts, and now she has been tabbed Express-News Athlete of the Week. Capek allowed one hit and struck out 12 in seven innings to earn the shutout and also went 2 for 3 with a double at the plate to help her own cause. She was named Express-News softball player of the week Monday, and Rangers fans took over from there, voting her Express-News Athlete of the Week.

McCollum senior Alita Uresti put on a dazzling performance on the pitch last week to help the Cowboys notch a long-awaited playoff victory, earning her Express-News Athlete of the Week honors in the process. Uresti scored six goals in McCollum's 8-3 win over Edison in a Class 5A Division II first round playoff game, ending a 13-year drought without a playoff victory for the program. Her six goals added to a prolific season in which she scored 45 goals to go with 12 assists.
