Napoleon City Council Monday directed the law director to draft legislation for a community reinvestment area (CRA) agreement with a housing developer. The Napoleon Municipal Properties, Buildings, Land Use and Economic Development Committee last week recommended to council to approve a CRA agreement with Woodland Custom Home. The CRA would be for a 50% exemption from real property taxes for 10 years.

In a unanimous vote, Napoleon City Council Monday hired Lori Siclair as city manager. Earlier this month, council directed the law director to draft legislation appointing Siclair to the position, effective April 28. On Monday, council approved the appointment under the suspension of rules requiring three readings and as an emergency, so it goes into effect immediately rather than in 30 days. Current City Manager J. Andrew Small previously announced his retirement May 2.

Napoleon Area City Schools will be switching to a new notification system soon. The board of education recently approved an agreement with ParentSquare Inc. in the amount of $8,550. Technology Director Jacob Gebers explained the district currently utilizes Remind, which was purchased by ParentSquare. “They’ve kind of pushed people away from Remind into their own product, so we will be switching to ParentSquare,” Gebers said.
