Northwest Signal
The history of local community newspapers in the area dates back to 1852 with the launch of The North West, a weekly Democratic publication. Its first edition was released on September 8, 1852. Following this, the Henry County Signal, a weekly Republican newspaper, made its debut on September 10, 1865. In 1959, a significant merger occurred when the Napoleon Northwest-News and Henry County Signal combined to operate as a single entity. This led to the first edition of the Northwest Signal being published twice a week starting on September 7, 1960. By late 1961, the Northwest Signal expanded its publication to five days a week. On February 1, 1966, James (Jim) K. Kuser acquired the assets of the Napoleon Publishing Co. and established Napoleon Inc., the publisher of the daily Northwest Signal. The newspaper transitioned from a tabloid to its current broadsheet format on September 7, 1966. For over 35 years, the Kuser family has been dedicated to publishing the Northwest Signal, making it Henry County's sole daily newspaper.
