For the first time in more than 25 years, the Buffalo High School track and field team has won both the boys and girls 3A East Regional championship. Competing at home this past weekend, the two-time reigning girls team handily won a third consecutive conference championship, scoring 196.50 points; second place Douglas scored 132 points. On the boys side, Burns made a run at the championship, but the Bison boys prevailed, putting up 148 points to Burns’ 130.

When our first daughter Claire was born, I meticulously crafted a baby book detailing each new skill as she morphed from newborn to toddler – a photo with the date of the first time she rolled over; a photo and caption of how her first tooth erupted; a two-page spread of photos of her first bites of “real” food. Through her first 12 months, I amassed a 4-inch-thick tribute to each milestone. Firsts are memorable, anticipated, celebrated and captured on film.

Buffalo High School swimmer Tommy Wonka ended his high school career on the highest possible note – swimming the 100-yard breaststroke in a blistering 55.09 seconds to secure All-American honors and break his own state record at the 3A State Championships this past week. “Finally hitting that automatic was just crazy,” Wonka said.

The Johnson County Healthcare Center is wrapping up a years-long renovation and expansion project and one of the last major pieces of the project is now complete. Last week, the first baby was born in the center’s newly remodeled obstetrics wing. “It was always part of a plan from the time I got here, really, to bring our hospital space up to date with how healthcare is delivered today,” healthcare center CEO Luke Senden said.
