The Shinnecock Tribal Nation has bought a piece of land in Hampton Bays after a six-year pursuit. The Nation closed on the sale of an eight-acre piece of vacant land at 13 Indian Rd. in May. It’s next to their 80-acre Westwoods territory that the Nation is developing for a gas station and plaza. They held a ceremony to honor the land and welcome back Shinnecock stewardship. Shinnecock Attorney Tela Troge said that the land has always been a part of the Nation’s ancestral land.

Tribal and state leaders met Wednesday at the State Capitol to commemorate Red Dress Day. It’s a symbol used to represent missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

The Regionalized Human Trafficking Recovery Taskforce of the Greater Hartford Region (RHTRT) released the report Tuesday. The report outlines the challenges that need to be addressed to help human trafficking victims in the state for both children and adults. The task force interviewed survivors to track their path in a process called “journey mapping.” It maps the journey of children and adults impacted by trafficking in the state.

Connecticut announced the completion of a five-year plan to improve wireless cell service for commuters on the Metro-North New Haven line. The initiative is a public-private partnership with AT&T, which has invested more than $6 million in the project. Gov. Ned Lamont visited the Stamford Transportation Center on Monday to discuss the service. Lamont said the expanded high-speed network makes the rail commute option more attractive to workers and employers.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) has sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security after dozens of student visas were terminated without notice. Blumenthal sent a letter Thursday to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Todd Lyons. In the letter, Blumenthal requested an explanation for why ICE has revoked hundreds of student visas nationwide.
