As temperatures soared past 100 degrees in early October, Yajaira Rimendes, a 35-year-old former nurse, started to feel faint at a bus stop in North Las Vegas. It was midday and she was on her way to a chemotherapy appointment. She drank her only remaining water, which was already lukewarm, and passed out. “I don’t remember much, but from what I remember I woke up in a hospital,” Rimendes said.
