    Youth soccer in Vanderhoof is getting a major boost thanks to a generous three-year sponsorship commitment from several local businesses. Together, Four Rivers Co-op, Dalchako, Borno Built and Blue Valley Enterprises have pledged a total of $50,000 to support the Vanderhoof Youth Soccer Association (VYSA). The funding will help provide vital equipment for the program’s 339 players, 54 coaches and 11 executive members, said VYSA in a news release sent to Vanderhoof Omineca Express June 2.

    Local grade eight students Brenden Crowley and Tahirah Solesfrom Fort St. James Secondary School are heading to Fredericton, N.B. to present their award-winning project at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) May 31 to June 7. The project has been months in the works, with Soles and Crowley studying the best ways to keep birds cooler in the summer months. "They're highly motivated," said Fort St. James Secondary math and science teacher Jaclyn Boyes.
