Local grade eight students Brenden Crowley and Tahirah Solesfrom Fort St. James Secondary School are heading to Fredericton, N.B. to present their award-winning project at the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) May 31 to June 7. The project has been months in the works, with Soles and Crowley studying the best ways to keep birds cooler in the summer months. "They're highly motivated," said Fort St. James Secondary math and science teacher Jaclyn Boyes.

Megan Young, a longtime resident of Vanderhoof B.C., is no stranger to wearing many hats. From roles in the performing arts, as a speech language pathologist, mother and friend, Young stands out for her dedication in many areas of the community. A lifelong local, she grew up in Vanderhoof, left for university in Victoria and Vancouver B.C., and returned to raise her family and contribute to the area she calls home. The College of New Caledonia (CNC) Research Forest Society has announced the recipients of its 2025 Legacy Fund, awarding $451,000 to nine projects focused on ecosystem restoration and environmental sustainability. Among the recipients is the Nechako Environment and Watershed Stewardship Society, which is working to restore local ecosystems through Beaver Dam Analogues (BDAs) and fish population analysis.

A new exhibit is open to the public at the Pope Mountain Arts Centre in Fort St. James, featuring 100 miniature artworks. The project team for the new Primary Care and Community Health Services building in Vanderhoof visited Saik'uz First Nation to meet with Elders and community members on May 12.
