    DENVER — Denver International Airport (DIA) is on a ground delay on Friday afternoon due to severe storms in the area. The Federal Aviation Administration reported a ground delay of 86 minutes due to thunderstorms from 3 to 10:59 p.m. At 2:40 p.m., there are 600 flights delays and 18 canceled at DIA, according to FlightAware. Travelers should check with their airline on the status of their flight.

    COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Summer is well underway on the Front Range, but it's a different story at 14,115 feet in the Colorado mountains. Pikes Peak got a dumping of snow this week on its summit. City of Colorado Springs cameras on Wednesday show plows working to clear the parking lot and sidewalks, creating piles of snow that appear to be several feet high. This might be the mountain's last snow of the year, but maybe not. In 2023, Pikes Peak got a blizzard in mid-June.

    DENVER — A driver fleeing from a traffic stop on Thursday night drove though a park near downtown Denver and hit an occupied portable toilet, injuring a person inside, police said. It happened about 6:25 p.m. Thursday, when Denver Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near East 18th Avenue and Pennsylvania Street. A police spokesman did not say why officers attempted the traffic stop. The driver fled from officers.

    WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Denver Police are executing a search warrant in a homicide case Friday afternoon in Westminster. Westminster Police said they are assisting Denver Police at a house near West 105th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. They said the homicide happened in Denver a few days ago. 9NEWS reached out to Denver Police for more information. A Denver Police spokesperson would only say the operation is related to a homicide case.

    Both of Colorado's spellers in the Scripps National Spelling Bee exited the competition on Wednesday. Vedanth Raju, of Aurora, was among 57 spellers to advance to the semifinals after he correctly spelled the word "apoptosis" in Round 6 of the competition, being held just outside the nation's capital, at a convention center on the banks of the Potomac River.
