Hundreds of middle schoolers from across the state were present at Southern Connecticut State University to participate in the second annual Generationally Enhancing Men (GEM) conference on Friday. The conference was organized by Sean Allen Sr., founder of the nonprofit Equity Alliance Enrichment. He explained the purpose of the GEM conference is to inspire and uplift young men of color through workshops and relationship-building with the help of other successful men of color.

The final phase of the Farmington Canal Heritage Project will soon be available to the public. The City of New Haven has been working on the final stretch since 2021. Phase four of the trail will begin at the existing Temple Street entrance, continue into downtown before going underground and coming back up to street level on Grove Street, and continuing all the way to Long Wharf Drive.

The Ansonia Police Department is investigating a street takeover that happened in a residential neighborhood. The street takeover happened on Saturday, just before 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street in Ansonia, according to police. Police said they were responding to calls of fireworks and a possible street takeover and upon arrival the responding officer was met with a group of 50 to 100 people who were acting chaotic and violent.
E-scooters coming to New Haven to expand low-cost transportation

E-scooters by Veo will soon hit the streets of New Haven. On Monday, the Board of Alders approved a partnership with the company Veo to roll out 300 electric scooters in parts of Downtown and adjacent neighborhoods. Mayor Justin Elicker said it's part of the city's overall effort to provide more low-cost and low-climate impact transportation options. "Its going to be a good tool for New Haven residents and we're excited to roll it out," Elicker said.

A jury has found Jose Morales guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, Christine Holloway, in December 2019 and tampering with evidence. Police found Holloway's body on Dec. 2, 2019 in her home on Myrtle Avenue in Ansonia. The couple's daughter, Vanessa Morales, was 14 months old at the time and she not in the home when police found Holloway. There has been no sign of her since. Morales, 48. was arrested in connection with Holloway's death on Feb. 7, 2020.
