By the way, Arber Xhekaj had better get up quickly if he wants to keep a place in the line-up, because Kaiden Guhle has started skating again, as has Justin Barron.

After his first (and last) season with the Kings, Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded to the Washington Capitals. Many said he was finished and would never live up to the expectations set for him when he was drafted. However, this new move to Washington seems to be extremely beneficial for the 26-year-old Québécois. A few days ago, his head coach Spencer Carbery told reporters that he believes Dubois is the Capitals’ best player so far this season.

While a number of players are off to good individual starts, such as Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson, collective results have yet to materialize, with just two wins in six games. In particular, the Canadiens are struggling at five-on-five with a negative 5-goal output, tied for 26th in the NHL with two other teams.

Last night, the Canadiens didn’t play well, and this morning, Juraj Slafkovsky, Mike Matheson and Kaiden Guhle are on a day-to-day basis. Unlike the other two, Guhle won’t be making the trip to New York. And I have a feeling that defensively, against the Islanders, it will be Hutson, Savard, Barron, Struble, Mailloux and Matheson/Xhekaj, depending on the veteran’s state of health. Yes, we’re already there.

The Canadiens announced that Kirby Dach was unable to train with his teammates this morning. Why not? Because he underwent treatment instead of jumping on the ice with the rest of his teammates. This is what the Canadiens announced via their social networks. We obviously don’t know what’s going on, but we can assume it’s nothing too serious. It’s not an unusual procedure. Forward Kirby Dach will not participate in today’s training (treatment day).

Right from the start of training camp, there was surprisingly one name other than Lane Hutson on the lips of Montreal Canadiens fans. That name was Oliver Kapanen. The young Finn quickly made his mark in intra-squad games, and then really impressed in his first preparatory game in a 5-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Of course, true to form, the Montreal fans quickly got carried away, while the more realistic said that the young Kapanen would not be able to keep up such a constant pace of play.
