(KNSI) — Xcel Energy says it is continuing efforts to recover tritium that leaked into the ground beneath the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant following an equipment failure in late 2022. Tritium is a compound that emits low levels of radiation, is naturally present in the environment and is commonly created in the operation of nuclear power plants.
St. Cloud Sets Record High Sunday

(KNSI) — The National Weather Service says the St. Cloud area broke a weather record on Sunday. As of 7:45 p.m., the official daily high hit 93 degrees. The previous record was 90, which was set in 1900. The Twin Cities also set a record high of 90, beating the old one by two degrees. The hot weather will continue through Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s to around 90.
Air Quality Alert for Monday, May 12th

(KNSI) — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for western and central Minnesota, including St. Cloud. The alert will be in effect from noon on Monday, May 12, through 9:00 p.m.High levels of ground-level ozone are expected during the afternoon and early evening hours. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and low humidity will create ideal conditions for ozone formation. Ozone levels will be highest during the afternoon when sunshine is strongest and temperatures peak.

(KNSI) — The City of St. Cloud will be performing planned work at the on May 13th as part of a scheduled infrastructure improvement project on May 13th. The Calvary Hill location includes a booster station, a ground storage reservoir and an elevated storage tank. These are used to provide drinking water to the City’s second pressure zone in southwest St. Cloud.
Authorities Searching for Patient Who Escaped from Sex Offender Program in St. Peter

(KNSI) – Authorities are on the lookout for an escaped patient from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in St. Peter. The St. Peter Police Department says it was discovered Beau-Jcob Edward Zimmer disappeared Friday morning just after 1:30. He is described as 45 years old, 6′ tall, 188 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, black tennis shoes with bright yellow accents.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Set for May 10th

(KNSI) — The largest single day food collection event in the country is returning for its 33rd year. The National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carriers Association are again hosting the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. It’s easy to participate. Postal customers are asked to leave a bag of nonperishable food items near their mailbox on May 10th. Letter carriers will pick up the bags during regular mail delivery times. Every item collected stays local.
Missing St. Augusta Woman Found Dead in Willmar

(KNSI) — The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office has canceled the attempt to locate for Rebecca Lynn Philippi. Authorities say her body was found in the City of Willmar on May 6th. Foul play is not suspected, and no suspects are being sought in this case. The 48-year-old Philippi, from St. Augusta, left the location where she was staying and disappeared on May 1st. Catholic Church Elects First American Pope in History

Robert Francis Prevost OSA is an American Catholic prelate who has been prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America since 2023. He was born in Chicago in 1955, Prevost graduated from Villanova and spent the early part of his career there working for the Augustinians.
Two People Injured in Crash on Highway 10

(KNSI) – Highway 10 near Big Lake is back open following a serious crash near Big Lake Thursday morning. According to the Minnesota State Patrol’s preliminary crash report, just before 7:15, a straight truck, driven by a 35-year-old man from Coon Rapids was heading west on 10 at Industrial Drive when a 72-year-old Clearwater man in a Hyundai Kona going east and drove into the westbound lanes. The two collided in the intersection. A Life Link helicopter was called to the scene.
Design of the new Stearns County Jail and Justice Center is Fully Underway

(KNSI) – Design of the Stearns County jail and justice center is fully underway. The Board of Commissioners got a look at an initial design for the building on January 7th. On January 28th, architects came back with a second, slightly scaled back design/version, removing a level for courts, which will now be four stories instead of five. This resulted in saving 27,501 square feet and $11 million.
