(KNSI) — As part of Get Outdoors Month, this is Take a Kid Fishing weekend. June 6th through the 8th, Minnesota residents can fish without a license if they take a kid 15 or younger with them. The Department of Natural Resources says it’s an opportunity for adults and kids to spend time together while learning a fun new skill. Saturday is the DNR’s first I Can Fish! experience, which is being held at Lake Carlos State Park north of Alexandria.

(KNSI) — The man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an encounter with police Monday night was a former Minnesota State Trooper. A newspaper article posted in 1999 says Larry Alstead retired after a 32-year career as a patrolman. Alstead joined the U.S. Navy and worked in the iron industry while he waited to be accepted into the academy. His first post was in Ortonville in western Minnesota before transferring to Kandiyohi County and being stationed in Paynesville.

(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation and several local business partners awarded 37 scholarships to area students through its Unite for Success Scholarship Program. The 2024 scholarship awards were made possible due to Bernick’s, Coborns/Cash Wise, DeZURIK, GATR Truck Center, Glenn J. Imholte and the Chamber Connection, PineCone Vision Center, St. Cloud State University, and the St. Cloud Lions, who all participated as funding partners for this year’s program.

(KNSI) — The filing window for the Stearns County Commissioner District 4 seat has closed, and five candidates have stepped forward. Amin Ali, Shawn Blackburn, Darrell Breuestle, Mike Conway, Frank B. Imholte, and Bob Johnson will be on the ballot for the August primary to fill the vacancy created when former Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier abruptly retired in April. Conway, also the St. Cloud City Council President, announced his candidacy on KNSI on May 23rd.

(KNSI) — Minnesota’s Sixth District Congressman Tom Emmer will host a telephone town hall on Wednesday, June 4th, offering constituents a chance to hear a legislative update, ask questions, and share feedback. The town hall starts at 5:30 p.m. Central. The call in number is 1-833-425-1492. This will be Congressman Emmer’s second telephone town hall of the 119th Congress. His first, held in April, drew participation from over 32,000.

I don't get all of the graduation ceremonies. There's preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school. Unpopular opinion but having four graduations before graduating high school cheapens the achievement. It's like getting a participation trophy every few years.
